Do You Need To Replace Your Roof?

3 Minutes Posted on:

Your roof has a really important job. It protects your house from structural damage that can happen from moisture. It also ties your entire home together. If you have ever looked at a house under construction, you will see that the walls have braces on them. Those braces keep the walls straight and supported until the roof has been installed. The roof anchors the tops of the walls and keeps everything straight. That's part of why it is so essential to ensure your roof is in good shape. Knowing some signs that your roof is getting old or damaged can help you keep it in good condition for a long time.

Doors Won't Close

One sign that your roof is having problems is that your doors either won't stay open or they won't stay closed. That's because the roof helps to keep your walls in plumb and everything straight. If the roof is falling, the walls can start to fall out of true, which means that the doors and windows won't fit in their frames well anymore. Your doors depend on the walls to be in true so that they will stay closed or opened, but as your roof gets older, that can stop happening.

Sagging Gutters

Your gutters may start to sag as well. There can be a couple of reasons that your gutters are sagging, so you will need to check the other causes before you decide that they are sagging because your roof is having issues. The gutters may be sagging because they are missing their support brackets. If all the brackets are there, the problem can be that your roof is outliving its lifespan and starting to sag. Your gutters may be the first place you see the sag because they are easily seen.

Water Damage

It could be a couple of issues if you see signs of water damage on your ceiling. It is most likely coming from your roof. There is something wrong with your roof, which has let water get in. That could be missing or loose shingles or problems with the flashing on your roof. Water damage can look like yellow or dark spots on your walls and ceiling. If you have wallpaper, the water can get behind the paper and cause it to blister or peel off the wall.

Your roof is an essential part of your house. You need to know the signs of an aging roof so that you can get it repaired if there are problems.
